Maiya Slusser, MS, RD, CD, CNSCRenal Therapy Educator

As Renal Therapy Educator, Maiya Slusser is responsible for clinical education of our Intradialytic Parenteral Nutrition (IDPN) as well as our Intraperitoneal Nutrition (IPN).

Maiya Slusser, MS, RD, CD, CNSC has been working in the field of nutrition for over a decade. In her role as Renal Therapy Educator with PCA, she brings the knowledge gained from her diverse work history as well as a strong drive to improve patient care. Quality service and education using the most current research available are key in her approach to education.

Maiya is passionate about improving the quality of life for her patients and clients by providing tailored education and rigorously adhering to evidence-based practice. Maiya has had the honor of working as a clinical dietitian in renal transplant, pediatric acute care, traumatic spinal cord and brain injury.

Prior to joining Patient Care America, she worked for the scientific wellness industry providing behavior change counseling utilizing genetic data and a systems approach to health care and wellness.

Maiya completed her Bachelor of Science in 2009 at Utah State University and her Master of Science in 2019. She has been a Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) since 2014.

When she is not busy digging into the latest research or supporting the PCA field team, Maiya enjoys volunteering in her community, getting outdoors in the Pacific Northwest, and trying new foods whether it’s checking out a fun local restaurant or making a new dish at home.

Objectives:
Identify different micronutrients, their specific categories, and clinical evaluation
Explain common micronutrient changes and related causes for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD)
Examine zinc, selenium, pyridoxine, and vitamin C deficiencies in detail and discuss strategies to correct them
